Yellow Buses roll out the red carpet for ex-inspector

Birthday treat: Norman Feltham (centre) with his wife, Betty, and Andy Hickisson, Operations Manager, Yellow BusesA former bus inspector who left Yellow Buses 30 years ago received the red carpet treatment from his old employer when he celebrated his 80th birthday.

The company arranged for a Yellow Buses double-decker to pick Norman Feltham up from his home in Castle Lane West, Bournemouth, and take him the short distance to the nearby Yeomans Way bus depot.

He was then given a guided tour of the high-tech building, including the workshop, paintshop and supervisors’ control office, before being presented with gifts which included a book celebrating the centenary of Bournemouth Transport and a model double-decker bus.

“It has been wonderful, first class. Yellow Buses have done me proud,” said Mr Feltham who worked for the company for 27 years from 1949 to 1976.

Mr Feltham’s ‘guide’ for the two hour visit was another long-serving employee, Andy Hickisson, Operations Manager, who himself retires this month (September) after more than 36 years’ service.

Mr Hickisson was also at the wheel of the double-decker which collected Mr Feltham from his home. Other members of Mr Feltham’s close family also attending included grand-daughter Kate Lee who contacted Yellow Buses to arrange the birthday treat.“ Grandad had many happy memories of Yellow Buses and has been very excited about coming back,” Kate said. “It’s made a very special day even more special.”
