Pupil wins laptop after applying for CitizenCard

Pupil wins laptop
JOSEPHINE Slater was the toast of Glenmoor School after she won a laptop for herself and her school in a competition run by Transdev Yellow Buses (TYB).

To encourage young people to get a CitizenCard, every application for the photo ID card made through a school in TYB’s operating area was entered into a free draw.

CitizenCard Limited, the non-profit company which runs the national scheme and holds all the data, then chose the winning entry at random out of thousands of applications.
Josephine, 15, was picked as the winner and received a Sony Vaio laptop while her school was presented with a second identical model.

Jenni Wilkinson, TYB’s Communications and Marketing Manager, said: “Glenmoor School helped launch CitizenCard locally and has been tremendously supportive.

“Although Transdev Yellow Buses had no input into the choice of winner it is somewhat fitting that the pupil chosen should come from Glenmoor.”

From January 1, 2008, TYB will only allow discounted travel for 11 to 18-year-olds if they produce a CitizenCard.

The photo ID card is PASS (Proof of Age Standards Scheme) accredited and can be used for a variety of purposes nationally, including checking-in at airports.

It carries a full colour passport-style photograph of the holder with their name, date of birth and signature, thermally imaged onto the plastic card for security.

TYB is introducing CitizenCard to prevent the problem of students who look older than their years having their age queried.

Since it was brought in on a voluntary basis earlier this year the time taken by drivers in checking an increasingly wide range of ID cards has fallen, improving journey times for all passengers.
