Poppies placed on the front of Yellow Buses

Respect: Derek Lott (left) and Bob Wheatley with the large poppies that are fixed to the front of the Yellow Buses fleet to show support. Yellow Buses proudly displayed their poppies as a mark of respect for Britain’s war heroes.

Bob Wheatley, 85, who saw service in the Royal Navy during the Second Wold War, joined with Derek Lott, Managing Director of Yellow Buses, to fix a poppy to the front of a bus at the Yeomans Way headquarters.

Mr Wheatley is also the local Poppy Appeal organiser for the Royal British Legion in the Castlepoint and Yeomans Way area of Bournemouth.

All the company’s drivers were asked to observe the two minute silence on Armistice Day, Saturday November 11, at 11am.

Buses which were on the road parked at the nearest request stop – or safe parking area – and turned off their engines for the silent tribute.

A Yellow Buses spokesman said: “This is something we do every year. It’s a humble contribution to those who put their lives on the line for their country.”
