PASSENGERS on Transdev Yellow Buses (TYB) saw red – but for all the right reasons – when staff presented them with red roses to mark Valentine’s Day.
A five-strong team handed out 1,000 roses and Valentine’s Day cards in the centre of Bournemouth from 7.45am onwards.
The accompanying card included a three stanza verse penned by the company’s resident ‘poet laureate’ alias Jenni Wilkinson, Head of Marketing.
The appropriately corny prose included the verse:
‘It takes someone special just like you
To go to the stop and join the queue
You’re still the only one for us
We love it when you catch our bus’
Jenni said: “The reaction we received from people ranged from total bemusement to joy that the person would not now have to buy a rose for their partner.
“It was a fun way of saying ‘thank you’ to people for travelling with us as well as encourage their relatives, friends and work colleagues to also get the bus habit.”

Pensioner Bill Gibson, 73, of Poole, said he would be passing on his rose and card to wife, Ann. “It’s certainly a surprise. We’ve been married for more than 40 years and I had bought her something but this will make an extra gift,” he laughed.
