Yellow Buses and Wessex from First have come together to offer joint ticketing across the Dorset Jurassic Coast. As of 30th May, customers will be able to travel from Christchurch to Lyme Regis on one ticket.
Wessex from First has agreed to accept the Yellow Buses Adventure Ticket which launches on the 29th May 2021.
Group tickets are valid for up to 5 people (adult or child) travelling together.
Find out more about the adventure ticket here.
Customers with an Adventure Ticket issued through contactless, cash or on the mobile app can simply show the Wessex driver their ticket and travel anywhere across the Wessex network including Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door, on the open top service to Portland Bill and along the Jurassic Coast to Lyme Regis.
Wessex Service X54 departs from the Seldown Bus Station in Poole, so customers leaving Yellow Buses route 1 will have a short walk from the Rail Station through Falkland Square and the Dolphin Centre to the Seldown Bus Station.
Route X54 departs from Poole at 10:20, 12:20, 14:17, 16:20, 17:55 and 18:55
One journey possibility could be to depart from Bournemouth Square at 09:10 (the bus starts from Christchurch at 08:32), get to Poole Rail Station at 09:39, take a walk through Falkland Square grab a drink and a sandwich in time to get the X54 to Weymouth at 10:20.
You may wish to only visit Durdle Door and then get off at 11:31 and spend the day between Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. It is easier to walk down to the Cove rather than up to the Door!
Or you may wish to continue to Weymouth arriving at 12:09. A quick change on to the Wessex X53 service to Axminster departing at 12:25 and you can see the fantastic views of the Jurassic Coast from Abbotsbury to Burton Bradstock. You can choose to visit West Bay, Bridport or the amazing Lyme Regis, arriving at 14:24.
The beauty of the Yellow Buses Adventure Ticket and the Wessex Network ticket is that you can buy them for 1 day, 2 day or 3 days. So when you get to Lyme Regis you can choose to stay the night and come back the following day.
If you do want to come back the journey leaves Lyme Regis at 15:40*, heading back to Weymouth along the wonderful Jurassic Coast arriving at 17:47. Just in time to catch a glimpse of the beach before continuing on the X54 at 18:05.
This arrives in Poole at Seldown Bus Station at 19:43. The Yellow Buses route 1 going to Bournemouth and Christchurch departs at 20:22 but gets to Bournemouth Square at 2050.
It is a long day, but for this summer you can get from Christchurch to Lyme Regis and back in one day!
For the less energetic, you can easily spend the day at Lulworth Cove or Durdle Door. You can also spend the day in Weymouth visiting the beach and the picturesque Harbour. You can even fit in an open top return to Portland Bill on the Jurassic Coaster 501.
The journeys from Weymouth spending time in Bournemouth and Christchurch are just as easy!
