TOP HONOUR: David Squire, centre, Managing Director of Yellow Buses, collects the company's award for innovation at the South West England Tourism Excellence Awards in Exeter Cathedral

Yellow Buses has been honoured at the prestigious South West England Tourism Excellence Awards.

Bournemouth’s locally-owned bus company scooped a bronze medal in the Tourism Innovation category.

Yellows were the only bus company in the whole south-west region to be an award-winner.

Managing Director David Squire collected the award at a glittering ceremony held in historic Exeter Cathedral.

He said: “This award is very much for the whole Yellow Buses family. I am really proud of my team for delivering exceptional service day in, day out.

“Innovation is at the heart of our business – we continue to constantly modernise in order to provide customers with the best possible bus services.”

David added: “This award is testament to our dedicated and hard-working team who pull out all the stops every day to ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry.”

Yellows impressed the judges with a  range of technical innovations, including free wi-fi, USB charging points and contactless payment.

The improved town centre Travel Shop with screens showing real-time bus movements and an easy-to-use facility for customers to search for attractions to visit and how to reach them was included in the entry.

Also playing a major part in Yellows’ success was an improved network, newly branded routes and the re-introduction of the hugely successful Open Toppers.

Yellow Buses qualified for the SW England Tourism Excellence Awards after triumphing in the Dorset Tourism Awards.

The awards attracted a record 773 entries this year and 107 awards were presented at the annual celebration of the area’s tourism excellence.

Yellow Buses was acquired by its management team – David Squire, Managing Director; Simon Newport, Commercial Director and Phil Pannell, Service Delivery Director – from RATP Dev in a management buyout in July 2019 for an undisclosed sum.
